WATERPROOFING APPLICATOR
Waterproofing is one of the more modern construction trades, having grown out of the specialist requirement to prevent water ingress affecting below ground building works and leakages affecting internal and external structural work.
This trade relates to applying water proof systems to below ground level, internal wet areas and external areas.
What does it mean to be a waterproofing applicator?
A waterproofing applicator may perform the following tasks:
- Apply waterproofing to foundations
- Seal tanks, ponds and other wet areas
- Frame and fit wet area fixtures
- Prepare surfaces for waterproofing applications
- Apply and install sealant and sealant devices
- Apply OH&S procedures and processes to above.
Waterproofing tradespersons are expected to work indoors and outdoors and/or both underground and may also be required to work at heights. They usually work on their own. They can be self -employed tradespeople working under an occupational licence.

What personal qualities do you need to be a waterproofing applicator?
- Able to work with hands
- Able to read and interpret plans
- Able to work at heights if required
- Able to work in confined spaces
- Physically fit and healthy.
Qualification
The Certificate III in Waterproofing requires 17 units of competency - 13 units are compulsory (at least one of BCGWP3001B, BCG3002B or BCGWP3003B must be selected) and 4 units may be selected from the list of elective units.
